Sev History

This will be an attempt to document some of the shenanigans that have occured over the long history of Sev. As the page lengthens, we may have to divide it up into subpages. Some of the highlights include:

Original "SEV"

Early on as the sevolution began via a whisper from a mate.

A throw away comment from a high school fiend, who upon seeing anything idiotic would utter the word "Sev" with a little wag of the right pinky finger in an anticlockwise semi circular rotation. An inference that the witnessed event or action was moronic.

Overrulegate

Early in the history of the judging sessions, JC decided he didn't like the judge's choice and simply overruled it, picking his own favourite punchline. He never imagined the furore it would cause. Protest marches, burning effigies, well, all of these were too much trouble but there were some very stern posts on the forum!

 

Launch of the Sev Trek Movie

The launch of the Sev Trek film was the culmination of two years of sweat and pain, mostly by animator Andrew Simpson who singlehandedly animated the whole 41 minute film (apart from some help with walk and run cycles and lip syncing from Dan Beeston).

 

Subscription

On April 1, 2005, JC received an email from my webhost saying they would close down the site as it kept crashing the server. The guilty party was the cartoon archives, a huge behemoth of a database with thousands of cartoons, tens of thousands of comments and hundreds of thousands of punchlines. JC begged for a few days clemency which they granted -  then in desperation and haste closed down the cartoon archives making them only open to paid subscribers. The abruptness of it all was regretable and alienated many sevilians who never came back to the site. The site has been in a state of rebuilding ever since.
